The Lead Mason is the senior craft lead on site, responsible for supervising a dedicated 3-person construction crew (Lead Mason, Mason, General Worker) to deliver high-quality biodigester construction works safely, on time, and to specification. The Lead Mason ensures correct setting-out, workmanship, materials usage, and compliance with project standards, while mentoring the team throughout the project duration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily site works for biodigester construction (foundations, chamber works, plastering/rendering, finishing).
  • Interpret basic drawings/specifications and ensure correct setting-out, levels, and alignment.
  • Supervise quality of masonry works, curing, water-tightness/finish quality, and defect correction.
  • Plan daily tasks, allocate work to the Mason and General Worker, and ensure productivity.
  • Enforce HSE requirements: PPE use, housekeeping, safe tool handling, and hazard reporting.
  • Manage and safeguard tools/materials on site; support stock checks and site material accountability.
  • Liaise with the Technical Director/technical team on progress updates, challenges, and technical clarifications.
  • Maintain simple site records (daily progress, materials used, attendance) as required.
  • Mentor crew members to build skill and consistency across multiple sites over the project period.

Minimum Requirements (Qualifications & Experience)

  • Practical trade experience in masonry/construction; formal trade certificate is an advantage.
  • Minimum 3–5 years proven experience as a Mason/Lead Mason on construction projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise a small crew and deliver quality work under deadlines.
  • Experience in water-retaining structures (tanks, septic systems, biogas/biodigester works) is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong workmanship, leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to take measurements, use basic tools accurately, and maintain high finishing standards.
  • High integrity, reliability, and willingness to work in rural/field environments.
  • Willingness to travel within assigned provinces.
